I decided to take mine to the shop and told them what I wanted. For $450 they cut the pipes right after the cats and welded a custom job with x pipes and Flowmaster 40s. There is a small but definite gain in power and it sounds much better.
One thing that I tell everyone who wants to covert is to consider going with twin exhaust tips since our bumpers don't have exhaust cut-outs. They look cool and it's something that the GT bumpers can't have.

I think the best thing to do to a late model V6 Mustang is put GT take off exhaust on it.

This will flow more than enough for the V6 and give it a good sound.

You can run GT take off exhaust by modifying the rear bumper or just dropping the tailpipes down. I have seen that done many times.

Couldn't you do a GT rear bumper conversion to solve that problem? I agree the bumper cutouts look much better, however I'm not a fan of the twin tips.

There are many clips on youtube so you can hear what different brands sound like. You will need a shop to install hangers on one side or you could go to the salvage yard and get them off a GT or Cobra. They're simple bolt in hangers, 2 hangers, 4 bolts total (per side), one by the tip and one by the muffler. If you really want to go the true dual route you will most likely have to get a universal kit, or have a shop custom bend the pipes.
The engine size and type will DRASTICALLY change the sound of mufflers. Magnaflows sound like crap on sixxer and sound great on v8's (imo). If your 1st statement is true, than a civic and a Cobra should sound the same if they had the same mufflers. I also don't think they make mid length headers for v6's (correct me if I'm wrong). Go long or go home (unless you have emissions testing).

Are the hanger off a Cobra the same? I thought they're exhaust was routed differently because of their IRS.

The cheapest way that I found was to buy your mufflers off the internet (the ones sold in a shop are way over priced), take them to a exhaust shop and have them custom make you a true dual system. An H pipe will sound slightly deeper while an X will sound a little more raspy.

Also, Geryogery, those dual tips aren't lookin good man. Someone lied to you.

99-01 Cobras have the IRS as well. 99 was the first year for the IRS, coming with the New Edge body style. You'd have to get it from a 94-98 if anything.

An X-pipe, properly built, will provide the largest HP boost, but as already said on the 3.8 it isn't much of a difference between H, X, and Divorced Duals.
