Default hesitation

My wife's sixer is running terrible. It is bucking like crazy/sputtering and making a ticking sound. It has good oil pressure, it almost sounds like it is not firing on all of the cylinders. I just changed the plugs but that did not help. Any suggestions? Thanks. O yeah, the service engine light was on when this happened, so I bought new plugs and reset the SES. The light hasnt come back on but it still runs terrible I checked the coil and it seems to be working fine. I checked it by pulling off one wire at a time and you could see the spark jumping in all of them. The CEL will not come back on at the moment. I drove the car around for about 10 minutes and nothing, the car would run like absolute junk but I can't get the CEL to come back on so I can pull the codes. Any help???

Doesn't look like too many people care. Anyway, I brought the car to the ford dealer and they did a compression check on it and the number one cylinder had zero compression. I then did a compression check on it myself, for the hell of it, and it came back with the same results. I am not too sure how this all came about. Drove the car for a while and no issues. All of a sudden one day it began to act up, no symptoms, just goes into self destruct mode. Now no compression. It only has 79k miles on it. Any ideas?

with no compression at the cylinder, i would start with looking at the piston rings.

+1... piston rings are probably shot.

It turned out to be a $9 valve spring.

Good catch. If the valve was not closing it would be hard to get any compression. Nice job and glad it was a cheap fix for you.
