I have a manual 1998 V6 3.8 liter mustang. When I push in the clutch I can shift through the gears freely only when the motors off... If the car is running it will not change. I just put a new adjustable clutch cable on but I think the issues may be a bit deeper.
When the clutch pedal is fully disengaged and the vehicle is in nuetral you can hear a mild scraping sound coming from the clutch.
Any one have an idea whats going on with my ride/?

We already told you, the clutch isn't becoming fully disengaged. When the car is on, and you're off the clutch pedal, the clutch is spinning with the engine, along with the transmission. It will spin freely in neutral, since no torque is being delivered out the output shaft and to the wheels. When you push the clutch pedal down, the clutch should disengage from the transmission, so the transmission stops spinning. Then you can put it in gear. What's happening is the clutch isn't disengaging, so you can't put it in gear with the transmission spinning.
Is it an aftermarket clutch cable? If so, throw it out and get a stock cable, from Ford, and just use the firewall adjuster. Aftermarket cables are junk, along with aftermarket TOB's.
Try this: Get under the car, take off the clutch fork/cable shield on the tranny, and have someone in the car and press the clutch down. See if the fork is pulling the TOB through the full range of movement. I can almost guarantee you is isn't.
My apologies... I put this post up and didn't get any reply's til now so that's why I had the other post up. I should have deleted this thread I guess...
I switched it out to the stock clutch cable and tweaked my firewall adjuster andvand the mustang is running great now.
Thank you everyone for your help and patience.
Xemeth - that was some good advice and is def. appreciated.
