I guess I am kind of skeptical of buying one if they won't work all the time.
radar and laser are 2 different things. radar uses radio frequency. laser uses light frequency [904nm]. laser is pinpoint, and near instantaneous (has some problems with fog tho?). radar is broad, but takes a couple seconds to "acquire" the speed, and has a tendancy to "echo" when the cop uses it, making it easier to detect.

radar jammers are illegal, laser jammers are not (blinder series laser jammers). rocky mountain radar's claims of "radar jamming" are fake.

also have to watch out for 'vastrac' or its varient, where they time you going between 2 locations. this is undetectable. also, those liscence plate covers dont work.

So can the Valentine One or any radar detector for that matter pick up the cops laser before he already has your speed?

Wish I had one. Got my first ticket today on the way to Six Flags with some friends, not even in the mustang. 79 in a 65...$160. I guess its not the worst thing in the world just kinda sucks. The cop had a sick spot, no chance to see him.

My favorite radar detector is my badge lol.. Nah but in all honesty any radar detector is good but I found that a lot always pick up those "fake" signals.. Plus its only really good if the officer keeps the radar going which is what some of the towns have.. They have the unit that is on the dash of the car and keeps reading speeds as people go by.. Our department has those but we mostly use the radar gun which only reads your speed when we point and pull the trigger.. Basically making radar detectors useless.. At least that's what i tell people when I pull them over and i see their radar detector on the dash.. Also another little input for you guys.. don't get a radar that mounts to the windshield.. that only says to us that you speed enough to need a radar detector.. Get the nice remote mount ones that go in the grille or at least mount it somewhere not very noticeable..

That is why I am skeptical about them. My stepdad is an officer and he is pretty sure that radar detectors only pick up the signal when the officer has their speed already. Guess the best radar detector is your eyes and ability to pick and choose the right spots to speed.

Well if the po-po is pulling the trigger on the radar detector even at another car (i.e. speed trap) wouldn't a good detector like the v1 pick that up about a mile away and warn you to slow down before the trap??? As for the lasers, once your detector indicates a laser, that means the cop just got your speed and you're basically screwed. *I think* lasers are used mostly in states that have tags on the front of the car tho. This is what the laser bounces off of to give the fuzz your speed.

DO NOT speed around an exit on the interstate. This is were it seems to me most of the cops like to hide (within a 1/4 mile either direction).

damn dude i feel you on that.. just got caught a month ago 61 in a 45.. cop got me while driving on the opposite side of the road, but it was night so i couldn't tell it was a cop. same price for the ticket for me as well it was a bitch..

but Six Flags? where do you live man? i live in Michigan and six flags is one of the most convenient amusement parks for me, but Cedar Point kicks its ass haha

Well think about this.. Most detectors get that "beep" when you pass a store that gives off that kind of signal.. so when a cop pulls the trigger on another car you might get the beep but then it disappears so you brush it off until you get there.. but as stated the best places for us to get speed is around the bend where you cant see so just keep that in mind.. just drive safely and be polite.. most cops will go easy on someone that doesnt question and deny what they have done..

I have a escort passport 8500 X50 and really like it. I also have a cobra detector that a friend gave me but it can not even compete with the passport. It seems to really reach out there and pick them up. I would recommend this radar to anyone
