So I took my 02 Mustang to a Fletcher Auto because the Service Engine Light popped up. They told me that the problem with car was I had a bad EGR valve and DPFE sensor and they wanted to charge me over $400 to fix the problem. I found both those parts at NAPA for under $140 and I have my Chilton manual for my car which explains how to replace these parts and they seem pretty easy/straight forward to replace. I wanted to see if anyone has actually done this and if it is as easy as it looks. Both parts look like they just need unbolted and unplugged and that is about it.

Remove the DPFE sensor, spray some brake parts cleaner or carb cleaner in it, let it dry out, re-install it, and you're most likely gonna be all good from there.

Thanks, I haven't purchased the parts yet. I just looked them up to see how much they will cost me. But I did have to pay Fletchers to just look at my car, which is lame. All they did was use a scanner thing... I really need to invest into one of those.
I bet they got the code P0401. You might not even need the new EGR valve, replace the sensor and see if that does not fix it. I got that code once and just replaced the DFPE and that fixed it.
Autozone/oriley's has code scanners that you can use for free.

I was throwing the same code, P0401. I tried to clean the DPFE sensor but it didn't work. After a couple hours of driving the SES light just came back on and threw the same code, P0401. Today I bought a new DPFE sensor and installed it. I'll get back to you guys in about a week. I figure if the SES light doesn't come on in a week then it is most likely fixed. I'll let you guys know so you don't have to spend the money trying to figure it out.
Well it's been a week now and the SES light has not come back on. This means the new DPFE sensor fixed the P0401 problem. I got it from Autozone for $35. Hope this helps!
