Default 2000 v6 axle broke

Hi
Last night my girl friend was driving home when her right rear axle broke.

My question is is this common and how would you guys recommended fixing it?
I might have a line on a 8.8 rear end out of a '99 gt, would this be a direct drop in?

I still need to hear back from the insurance company so I don't yet know exactly whats going to happen.

I am guessing since I am new I can't yet post pics so here is a link to my thread on FABO
http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/...097#post623097

thank you guys!

I had to replace my rr axle and it was less than $200 for the gear lube and axle from the dealership.

thats very strange very strange indeed anyway yes a 8.8 is a direct swap if its from a 99+ and a good mod at that ive never heard of that happening ever on one of our cars but who knows

well the adjuster will be out here tomorrow, I have the feeling they won't want to do anything about it though so that means I will be doing an 8.8 lsd swap!

Anyone have one they want to sell around Seattle?

Could always buy an 03/04 Cobra IRS and have a very nice ride afterwords

That too is a direct swap with the exception of needing to change the pinion flange.

If she wants to sell if tell me
