Default 1996 mustang tranny ?s

i just bought a 96 mustang with 3.8 in it and the tranny is gone only has 4th gear, but i also have a 89 mustang 5.0 car that im building but it has a 5 speed in it also i looked at both of them, they look the same but are they? and will the 89 fit in the 96?

It will bolt up but the input shaft is going to be too short, 5/16" too short if I remember correctly. Not an ideal swap as it would kill the pilot bearing quickly I would bet.

A 94/95 GT/Cobra T5 will work as well as a 94-04 T5.

Enjoy the pilot bearing replacement... Just because you eyeball it and it sits in there doesnt mean it is right.

it was the same size to actal. and if it wasnt its not that hard to change a polit bearing ive replaced clutches in these cars in under an hour

If it came from a fox then the input shaft is a different length or the trans if from a 94/95 GT or 94-04 V6. Simple.

i dont know what the tranny came out of it was giving to me by a friend and told me it came out of a fox the only difference i saw it was the was an extra sensor on the top. but i took the tool to line up my fox and used it to see if the was the same size

Ya, that ALIGNMENT tool fits hundreds of different transmissions too, it doesnt check for end clearances/lengths.

Just go drive the **** out of it, invest in a slide hammer cause you'll be changing that pilot bearing soon.
