I have an 05 GT with almost 17,000 miles on it. Should I take the chance of pulling the plugs to put antisieze on them or just drive it on hope that they last 100,000 miles?

 

get them out of there as soon as possible to avoid the carbon build up. theres alot of threads on here about it. i did mine a week ago and broke 1 of them but ive got 83,000 miles

 

+1 ASAP. Did mine a week ago as well and broke 2. Car is an '05 at 81k.

 

Get 'em out of there. My '06 had 38K miles. I broke the second one, the dealer broke 5 more. With 17K miles, you'll probably be OK.

 

I did them at 25K - none broken. They creaked like an old barn door coming out. I went very slowly, and followed the TSB carefully. Do it now - TAKE YOUR TIME - let them soak for at least an hour after the initial break-loose. You should be fine. One thing - with the engine cold, I could NOT break them loose at the expected torque. I had to run the engine till it was warm to touch (maybe 10 minutes). They broke free easily, I soaked them and let the engine cool for an hour or two, then did the rest. Good luck.

 

did mine a 15k no problems. Just take your time. But like stated do it as soon as possible

 

im about to change my plugs.. i have a 06 w/ 3k miles, i bought the car w/ 7k miles, i have NO idea if the plugs have ever been changed or not.. they havent been changed since ive owned the car.. what are you "soaking" them in? and when are you soaking them? after breaking them loose? ?

Was there a TSB I missed?
I haven't pulled the plugs since I bought my '05 at 22K mi but I did have the dealership do the 30K service about 4 months ago, would they have done it? (They have also performed all my oil changes.) Think I need a new set of plugs?

 

There is a TSB about it. Check the stickies. As for the dealer doing anything with the plugs at 30k, you can count on that they did not. As far as regular maintenance goes, the spark plugs themselves last for 100k. But the lifetime of the sparkplugs is not where the problem lies. The design of the plug itself is the problem for removal. So, the sooner you can get them out, the better. If pulling and cleaning the plugs frequently is not something you want to contend with, I strongly recommend getting a 1-piece design from Champion or Brisk. They are not cheap, but the future headaches far outweigh the cost of those plugs.
