After I take the 2005 convertible through the car wash, water apparently accumulates under the rear seat on the driver side and any passenger ends up with a damp rear end. The top of the seat is dry - it comes up between the seat and rear cushion when someone sits there. It doesn't appear to affect the passenger side and doesn't appear to be caused by rain - only by the car wash. I don't see any obvious water coming in at the rear window. I'm not only concerned about rust but also about the moisture damaging the seat materials. Any suggestions where to start looking for the water infiltration?

I guess my next logical step is to remove the seat and have someone in the back watch for leaks with a flashlight while we go through the car wash...

 

Not 100% sure but, sounds like the have the infamous water leak in your car. Use the search to find threads about this, there's a TSB out for this.

 

No this sounds really wierd. U need to take it to a really good mechanic I think. Unless your very experienced.

Is there an undercariage wash in the car wash? If so there might be a leak or crack in the body underneath the car.
Or the roof isn't sealing all the way in the rear.

 

This really doesn't sound like the "infamous" leak, which affects the passenger side front.

There's two big plastic body plugs under the rear seat (about 10" in diameter) that go right through to the underside of the car (they're there to allow servicing the fuel tank sender/pump without dropping the gas tank). First thing I'd recommend is unclipping the seat bottom and making sure they're in place.

Second thing to check in that area would be the top sealing around the rear well, but that might require a pro to really check out.

i remember when i installed my subs, i took out the back seat to hide the wiring under it and i saw these service ports. there may be a bad seal or even a crack in one.

 

I would place my bet on one of those ports being bad

I just recently purchased a 2009 convertible mustang & im experiencing the same problem. Today i took the bottom part of my seats off & it was FLOODED with Water.
i had to vacuum it out. Then it rained, and i checked & ot qas flooded AGAIN! So i checked and found like 3 holes that go directly from the rear window to underneath the rear seats...

How did you fix this problem?? Plz help! Lol

There is a drain under each side speaker area that gets plugged up. Do a search on convertible top drains or watch some you tube.
