Back in the mid 90's when I was in high school, I talked to a guy that had a 70's Chevy regular cab short bed truck that was pretty sweet, but he way over exagerated what it had. It had a fairly aggressive 350 and he told us that it had a 600 hp 454 and ran 10s in the 1/4 mile. He actually lied about the motor while we were standing there looking under the hood.
We used to lie about our cars all the time back in the 60s and 70s but in the other direction. We had one guy pull the badges off a 260 Falcon and put them on his 289 Falcon before going to the track for amateur day. Claiming a 327 was a 283 was also a common ploy. As long as nobody took a good look you got away with it.
