It's a band-aid for poor driving. That's why I keep resisting them. And if I get them and eventually get FI then I'm back to the same problem again.
I don't quit easily I'll go out a time or two again and try. But another 30x down the strip I better have some results or I'm gonna have to just suck it up and admit that I can't drive a manual nearly as good as I thought I could.

That is the silliest thing I have ever heard. I guess all mods then are a band aid. If you think a 2.0 60 foot is good, I have bridge to sell you. There is a point that you will need a set of good tires if you want to be fast. A rear wheel drive V8 car that makes a decent amount of tq will never run it's best on a regular street tire, even Jesus came down and drove it.
