Cool Looking for help with my 1965 200ci.

I have a 1965 coupe with the 200ci. engine/1bbl.carb. It runs great 90% of the time but has developed a slight miss lately. Ive put in new plugs, voltage regulator, had the carb adjusted, etc. but still have the miss in the engine.
It runs and sounds fine at idle speed but the skip really gets noticible at speeds above 40 mph, especially if Im going up hill. When I try to adjust the automatic choke, it does nothing as far as I can tell.
A friend told me the choke plate or butterfly should be completely closed before I start it in the mornings but it never is. It is always open about a quarter inch. In fact, I cant find anyway to make it close completely.
Any ideas on what I should try next?
Any help would be apprieciated.
