Default Is my mustang getting close to overheating?

How can you tell if your car is getting close to overheating? There are no temp reading on the gauge. At this point it has not released steam from the cap, but seems pretty hot when I turn it off...I have heard that 210 degrees is normal for these cars. Could it be a simple as replacing the radiator cap? I dont know the last time it was replaced. Any thoughts?
