Dang, I hate to hear about problems like this.

If you're really that low on cash, I don't think you have a choice on the rebuild kit. If you have the tools, the buddies and the time, I'd strongly suggest pulling that puppy and at least doing rings, bearings, timing chain and oil pump. At least it will survive until you find yourself in a better cash position.
