As long as you do what you're supposed to do (as far as doing the whole salt water deal, etc), it won't become an issue. I didn't even use the painkillers, and I was fine right out of surgery.. granted once the IV stuff wore off my gums were slightly agitated, but aside from that (and no pain at all, just agitation like I mentioned) no problems.. not a serious thing at all.
