I am new to the forum and did a search, but did not find anything related to gas gauges.

I bought my 90 GT 5 speed two weeks ago, and I am making it a rolling restoration. The gas gauge was not working when I bought it, and I would like to know where to start with the diagnosis and repair. I am hoping it is an easy fix, but it never has been for me.

Any ideas as to where to start and proceed?

The fuel sending unit is usually the most likely cause.

Indeed. Or you'll get lucky like me and run the car out of gas completely and when you fill it up the gauge will be working again. O.o

But it's most likely your fuel level sending unit.

Or the slosh sensor, located behind the gauge cluster. A square chip. this is what IM hearing...

Thanks for your responses. Pardon my ignorance, but I am assuming the fuel level sending unit is in the tank, and the tank must be removed to access it. Is that correct?

^that is correct, its the innermost unit that goes into the tank from the top. Let us know your progress and if you fix it, what the culprit is. Im having the same prob, but I think its the slosh sensor.
