Is it easy to replace a fuel pump for a rookie I know it needs gaskets and sealent but what other things should I worrie about relpacing it

 

Easy. Its on with two bolts. Comes right off. But if that cam which moves the lever it is warn, its a much bigger job. The timing cover has to come off. Which means so does the fan, and belts and what ever else is in the way.

 

but chances are the cam is fine... so its probably going to be a 2 bolt job.

Yeah, it's not hard but, how did we determine it is the fuel pump. Hate to see you throw parts at it that may not be bad. Is this shaking only at idle? Will you motor rev? and if it does, does it run smoother at higher rpms or does it die off idle? Do you have any smoke when it's running? What carb do you have?

 

we did nothing to determine if it was the fuel pump...I agree further investigation should be utilized.

Hey guys Ive changed my fuel pump and still the same resualts I was told it could be my timming has been thrown off if so how would you fix the timming thanks

 

probably not

There maybe a piece of dirt clogging the low speed circuit of the carb.

Does it run fine above say 2000 rpm?

You can double check your timing with a light very easy and its a good idea anyhow. I think you can rent a timing light from a Kragen auto parts

Could it be possible there was something floating in the tank when it was filled with gas, and when the car ran out of gas, the floating thing got sucked in or against a fuel line and clogged it?

Is it possible to check fuel pressure and determine if there is enough?

 

where would the speed circuit of the carb be located at? and one question can 6 cylinder spring coils hold up an 289 motor

 

no the springs wont cut it. too weak and soft. most of the front suspension parts have to be changed. theyre a lot weaker.
