The 39MPG is a ave across the fleet...so maybe each manuf will have a few cars that V8s in the future but I wouldn't be surprised if right now is the golden age of the big V8 and we see a decline in the future (smaller displacement or perhaps highly boosted engines). All I can say is I'm glad I have two relatively new Muscle cars now, there might not be as much muscle in the future, or if there is its likely not due to displacement. Time will tell.

The one thing that will come out good for the future is that cars are going to have to get lighter to meet these standards, while also keeping safety at the top of the list.
I think we are at or near the 'peak' of the new muscle car age, so enjoy it while it lasts.
I wouldn't mind seeing a sub 3000lb mustang again (1965 anyone?) with a modern 260ci V8 that revs to 7000+ rpms !!
