i have four 4ohm subs that i want to wire to my JL Audio 500/1 amp, my question is, do i wire the subs in pairs of two's then run each pair to the amp? cause from what i understand, when u wire two 4ohm subs in parallel, that gives you a 2ohm impedance. im basically asking whats the best way to wire these four subs to my amp? a quick response would be very thankful, im planning on hooking this up tonight. thanks in advance, this is my favorite place to go for car audio.

Edit: I think i just found the answer to my question on google. the spec sheet for my amp says:500W RMS x 1 @ 1.5-4ohms.
so will my amp be safe to run at 2 ohms per pair of subs?

single voice coil.

 

you could either wire them to a 4 ohm total, or 1 ohm total. the amp MAY handle a 1ohm load, but since its rated at 1.5, I wouldn't count on it. so 4 ohms, do series-parallel.

the "U- shaped" lines are jumper wires.

 

the amp is monoblock, so its only one channel. it has two pairs on terminals just for wiring flexability (bigger wire, etc) so it wont see pairs of subs, it will see all 4

 

ok ur diagram makes perfect sense, ive just never seen speakers or a diagram that says to wire speakers that way, now this crappy one i put together is that way i was gonna wire mine, which way is better?

 

doing it that way will have you at a 1 ohm load. do it like bassfiend showed in the pic for a 4 ohm load.

Do NOT use that diagram... It shows parallel wiring, which will give you a 1 ohm load and is not in the range of impedances that the 500/1 is designed for.

You will need to connect two subs in series (run a jumper from the pos. of one to the neg. of the other one), then connect the other two subs in series (same way). This will leave you with one unused pos. and one unused neg. per pair of woofers. Connect these to the amp terminals, which will parallel the two pairs. Net result = 4 ohms.
