Default Boss 429 engine..whats it worth

Going to a small town auction this weekend with alot of old fords including a Boss 429 engine. I have no idea if it's running or needs a rebuild. Just wondering what that motor might be worth either way. Thanks

If it is REALLY a Boss 429, figure on it going for a little more than the yearly salary for the average American....

Thinking the same thing. I would be surprised if it was a real BOSS 429. Ive seen so many 2 barrel wedge head BOSS 302s that I am quite wary of people using that to embellish their pedestrian engine. Let us know, and if it is a real Boss with the funny looking valve covers, feel free to bid until you cant make the house payment or utilities this month. It would be worth it to sell it later.

If it don't look like http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...9/Boss_429.jpg then its not a boss.

Well the heads are BOSS heads, intake doesnt match up, I havent seen a block in too long to remember what to look for. But yeah the heads are real. Just noticed someone welded the ports closed on one head trying to get the intake to fit... someone was very stupid. The intake looks to be a regular 429/460 intake, so unless one of the BOSS 429 owners says that is a BOSS block, I am going to bet its a regular 429 under it. Just a guess. Someone really didnt know what they were doing, and its a damn shame too.

wow, that is just pathetic....

I wonder if the heads can be saved.....

and if there is "other damage" as well.

If the damage is limited to the totally f-ed up 'fit job', they can probably be saved.

I would want to do an inspection and bid acordingly...

I am wanting to guess that there are extensive issue or they would not be in a "small auction".

May be the welded material can be ported back out of the heads with any bit of luck. They are probably worth saving.

That is wild. I wonder if someone stopped them before doing the other side. If it matters, he looks like a damn good welder

You guys want to REALLY cringe? If the valve covers are the original ones for those heads, I think that is an original set of Holman and Moody heads.
