The quadrant needs to be movable on the shaft. You have have to reach under the dash and fiddle with it get it right. There should be no creaks or pops when pushing the pedal. If there is you need to move the quadrant side to side. As far as how tight it needs to be get under the car and move the jamb nuts on the fork so there is about an 1/8" of play between them and the fork. Once you get that you should be able to go up the FWA and pull the whole cable an 1/8" away from the adjuster. If you do that the clutch will feel great and you shouldnt break a cable.

i picked up my stock cable from storage and will put it on tommorrow.

the wierd thing is before i put this clutch on i had no real probs with my old clutch and i was using this bbk stuff

 

so i put the stock clutch cable back in and now the clutch engages higher than the brake pedal. the firewall adjuster is all the way in.

the cable is so tight that when i tried to unscrew the firewall adj out (for the hell of it)it wouldn't even budge.

Get a ford racing adjustable one. I put the stock cable on my brother's 03 and fried the clutch since it was so tight.

 

So what is the issue? You said it engages too high if it's adjusted all the way & falls off if adjusted too low, I think I may just be misunderstanding that.

As for where it grabs is your personal preference. My clutch has a preload on it with it all the way out so it engages pretty close to the top, most people that drive my car hate it & prefer it to be closer to the floor. I ran an adjustable cable& firewall adjuster for a while, then switched to a non adjustable 94+ cable (they're longer so the cable isn't in as much of a bind) & still used the firewall adjuster. Doing this I did have to tug quite hard on the cable from under the hood (pulling away from the firewall) to adjust the firewall adjuster.

 

i want it a couple inches off the floor becuase thats where i shift best at. and i'm over six feet tall and i don't like bending my leg 90 degrees (basically) to get the clutch to engage.

 

In case I missed it, how many fingers are there on the quadrant?

 

just one that i know of. lol. but i'll have to check. i've had to put the cable back on now atleast 5 times (the bbk not stock) and only remember seeing one.

I had purchased the same exact thing you have on your pony and....after a couple of months the clutch cable just snapped.....it is poor quality....I recently purchased the king cobra clutch and the corresponding cable.....it's a bit more money but so worth it.....thats my solution

 

Can you get a good clear pic of how the cable goes through the fire wall adjuster?
