Ok, so tomorrow I will be purchasing a set of Pypes long tube headers from Brenspeed. The headers are T-304 stainless steel (so they "won't rust"). Precision Motorsports of FL offers 2000* coatings for $259.99 (I live in FL as well).

My question is: is it worth the $260 to protect the headers and "lower exterior header temps by 100*"?

If so, I will have Brenspeed ship them directly to PM-FL so the only added shipping cost would be from PM-FL to my door.

Thoughts??

I like the ceramic coating on my headers. Radiated heat is greatly reduced. If you are going to all the trouble of installing them might as well install coated headers.

 

They're austenitic stainless. Good grade. 18%Cr, 8%Ni. You don't need any coatings on them.

Under some extreme conditions, these ceramic coatings allow the header to operate "hotter" and slightly increase HP under WOT. Not really worth it unless you're trying to get another 0.05 seconds off a quarter time...

 

more than performance, I was considering it simply so the underhood stays cooler and so i dont end up with rainbow painted headers.

But i def see your point robs.

I have to agree with Bruce....get them coated...cooler engine bay temps and the LT's w/coating will allow the exhaust gases to leave the engine bay faster...therefore increasing HP (not by much) and preventing the rainbow effect you speak of.......great material for a header T-304 SS but the coating will further enhance looks and performance

I had headers on my 383 stroker...but they were just normal steel. damn things glowed cherry red after a hard run, and I cannot tell you how many fires they caused. Damn oil + headers doesn't mix.


It was always fun sniffing around trying to find the current smoldering item.



a buddy had a setup pretty similar to mine with ceramic coated. they were way way cooler. still couldn't touch them, but the heat was lowered enough that the random item didn't catch fire when it fell on them

 

im still goin back and forth on it... it would be nice, i just dont know if its worth the money

 

ok, well unless I change my mind for some reason I think I'll go ahead and get them coated... spending $700 on exhaust components... might as well spend $250 more to keep them looking great!
