Hey all, 65 coupe 347... I'm having power steering fluid splur out from the top where the lid is from. Trying to figure out y.. My buddy says it's because it's over heating n the fluid needs to just boil out... He also said the fluid was to water looking like way to clear? The fluid was new from local auto zone n was put in about 3 months ago. He recomended replacing the fluid n adding power steering cooler.. Whatdo u guys think is causing it to slash through the top... Also lid is on tight on the pump

You should be using transmission fluid, not "power steering fluid". The fluid should not be full to the top. This cap shows how far below the top it should be.

I don't know if I agree with trans fluid but, it does sound like it is overful and venting out the top.

the correct word is "can", not "should". my PS pump functions perfectly fine with PS fluid. but yes, you can use tranny fluid in your PS. just has to be the proper kind of course

Like I said, read the owner's manual. "PS fluid" lacks the proper additives.

Depends on how well you want the seals to hold up. The factory service manual, owner's manual, etc., says the Ford/Thompson-Bendix PS uses (R106) C1AZ-19582-A Rotunda Automatic Transmission Fluid. This was superseded by Type F in 1967. Ford still calls it Type F, and the part number is XT-1-QF.

my manual says to use tranny fluid. ive used both and never had it come out the fill tube. thats a strange one unless your over filling it.
