Hello everyone,

I have a 2005 Ford Mustang V6 with automatic transmission and almost 40K on it. Lately, I've started to notice that when I shift into reverse, the car shakes rough. It only occurs when I go into reverse. Its also random, sometimes its smooth, sometimes its really rough and sometimes its not that bad but you can still notice it.

I've found that pressing down on the break very hard seems to surpress it, but not all the time like its waiting for me to let up on the break before shifting into reverse even after I put the gear into reverse.

Any ideas?

me tooo. you mean as in it feels like you have to FORCE the shifter into R right?

No, I don't have to force it into reverse it just feels like it messes the gear sometimes for a second after I physically do it and then it shifts hard.

And no, I haven't found out why yet. I just always push the break pedal down hard when I shift into reverse out of habit now and it shifts smoothly for the most part. Sometimes it still shifts hard, but not nearly as hard as when I don't have my foot pressed down on the break peddle.

do you come to a complete stop before putting it in reverse? my friend owns a transmission shop. i can ask him whats up.

No, this is the first time I start my car. I wait and let the RPM's go down and then it happens sometimes if I'm not pushing hard on the break.

are you on a slope or on any kind of incline? try pulling the e-brake before putting it into park and then putting it into reverse before releasing the e-brake.

Yes a slight slope on my drive way. But the other times its happened I've been on level ground. I'll try it anyways and let you know.

Usually for me it only happens on slopes. I have had it once or twice on level ground though.
