Default Gt suspension parts on a v6 ?

So the V6 pony package had GT rims, tires, and suspension parts, right?

Ok, so Newtakeoff.com has GT front and rear convertible sway bars, shocks, springs, etc. And, I know someday I'll need new shocks anyway.

Are the gt parts that much better, handling wise, than the v6 suspension parts? I'd like an upgrade but I can't see dropping a grand on a roush kit, for a daily driver.

Opinions please!

I guess for a V6 the GT stuff would be an upgrade, but take note that most GT owners, myself included, are not happy with the handling. Suspension stuff IS expensive, but you don't have to do everything at once or buy new.

I did the springs first (H&R sport springs, used from ebay $99), six months later the shocks (used GT500 ones, which I got for free, but are available on ebay for $99) and adjustable BMR panhard (also used from Ebay, $40). Add to that Eibach camber bolts, new for $20 and Ford Racing strut mounts, new for $60.

Eventually I'll get some better parts but for now it's much, much better than stock.

Default Upgrading Pony Suspension

I once measured a set of GT springs, front and rear, and found them to be essentially the same number of coils, free length, and spring wire diameter as my '07 Pony. The front sway bar is exactly the same (34mm). The rear sway bar may be a little bigger on the GT, but marginally so. Big whoop.

Look elsewhere for a significant upgrade. Sam S has some very good prices on parts that will make a huge difference for fair/competitive prices. That, and he is capable of helping you pick the best of what he has that will give you what you want.

My opinion - forget Rousch.

Take off parts are cheap.... that's for sure. But they are cheap because they are just left over stock parts. And as Scott (azrampage) stated most of the things on a pony are the same as a GT, thought the GT rear bar is a touch bigger, in coupe form--the pony uses a convertible rear bar. But even the GT couple rear bar isn't enough for really good balance.

I guess it depends what's more important, the deal and maybe a little upgrade, or having a really worthwhile upgrade and one that rides better too (if you change from Ford shocks/struts).

Hey, I'll admit I used a bunch of take-off stuff I had around here on my girlfriends V-6--but it was a base not a pony. It had a smaller front bar, NO rear bar, and the springs were softer too. And while it was a lot better, it rode bumps like a truck and she was always pissed that my car on Koni Sports, set nowhere near soft rode hugely better.

For the hundredth time.
GT 20mm rear sway, 34mm front.
V6 Pony 18mm rear sway 31.5mm front sway
V6 no rear and 31.5mm front sway.
V6 and pont have the same rate springs.
Dithch the V6 and or Pony sways
for the GT sways and poly bushings
and keep your springs or get lowering springs.

DONT DO THIS!!

Its been discussed so many time before, its highly searchable...

I disagree with the sections in red.

My '07 Pony from the factory had the 34mm front sway bar, and the springs measured the same as a set from a GT (F & R).

So I am to guess that you got out your digital Mitutoyo calipers and measured
your front sway bar?[/color][/b] I measured about a hundred of them on the
stealership lot from 05 to 09 and have never ran across a V6 PP with anything
but a 31.5MM front sway and the 18mm rear sway as indicated by measuring
and the actuall part # on the Ford tag thats attached to 100% of them from
the factory.
I will have to disagree to disagree....

The springs measured the same AND had the same tags/part #s?
There are about 7 different springs listed in the workshop manual
and they warn about getting them mixed up because they look
similar in appearance but differ in spring rates, not physical height.

You don't have a good caliper? I've had one for years.........

This is what I can attest to:

2007 Pony V-6 bought new from Sunset Ford, Peoria AZ in October 2007:

34mm front sway bar
18mm rear sway bar

Front and rear springs (using calipers) measured the same wire diameter, free length, and number of coils as a set from a Mustang GT. They do have different tag numbers. Due to possible human measuring error, there may be very small differences as the wire diameter seemed to change some from top to bottom of the spring.

Summary (and we agree here) - Pony to GT "upgrade" is not really an upgrade, except for perhaps the front sway bar......easily measured.
