I just found that HF has their ¼" drive torque wrench on sale for $12.99, 56% off the regular price--this is a heck of a deal, just print out this coupon and bring it with you.



A ¼" torque wrench, set to 150lbin (12.5lbft), is the most accurate tool for properly torquing spark plugs. I have had this same wrench for years and find it to be accurate well within the specified +/- 4% range.

I should mention that the "click" on a ¼" torque wrench can be pretty subtle.

Hook it up in a vise, or on a good sized fastener, and experiment so that you will learn to feel the click...

I am not wild that it's all made in China, however that is the fault of the Federal government's 35% corporate tax rate, and hidden manufacturer's excise taxes, (which people that buy things from corporation--I.e. "us"--pay), that have driven manufacturer's out of the US--we can maybe start to change that in a couple weeks.

The quality of the HF tools has become top-notch over the years. 20 years ago it was mostly junk, 10 years ago some of it was junk, now very little of it is junk--which is good because if our government continues to spend recklessly, using money it has borrowed from China, Chinese tools are all we'll have in another 10 years.

You young fella's better start learning to speak it too...

To bad the Harbor Freight in my town got flooded. But I cant say I ever used a torque wrench to install spark plugs, no need for it.

That's solid engineering--makes one wonder why Ford bothered to publish the spec?

I got to thinking about this.

Unfortunately there are "mechanics" all across the country with this "We don't need no stinkin' torque wrench!" attitude--most are under shade trees, but many have set up shop--and some even work at Ford dealerships.

Next time you read of (or worse yet experience) a blown out spark plug, console yourself with the knowledge that properly torquing the plugs really isn't necessary...
