8.8 rear 3.90 Gears
Hi, I see that the aftermarket & Ford offers a 3.90 ring and pinion. Has anyone tried this out on the 5.0 and if so what is your impression?
I had 4.10's in previous mustangs and enjoyed them, but they could be steep.....5.0 is a six speed and should make a difference in overall driveability with 4.10s. Another thing is with a 5 speed 1st to 2nd gear shift is in no time....I'm sure the six speed would be the same.....3.90 may be an improvement?
Do the 4.10s offer the best performance improvements based on the basic mods everyone typically does: CAI, Tune, Headers/exhaust and maybe a supercharger? 3.90 may offer better 1/4 mile times?
Any advice would be appreciated?

The 2011 GT uses the same 8.8" rear axle that's been in use since, I think, 1784.
As far as the ratio selection... that's been a never-ending debate since I think also 1784. I haven't heard any opinions about the 3.90 but plenty of people have run 4.10s and like them. I believe the appropriate quote is, "Dosst not be afrayd of thine geayr!"

Check out you tube (2011 5.0 race), I noticed a couple cars that ran the 4.10 and stated they wanted to try the higher 3.73 rear gear to get deep in the 11s. These were in car videos and the cars were running in the low 12s to high 11s (6-speeds).
