will any big block fit in '66 without cutting towers?
i have a loudmouth buddy that loves my '66...and says he's rebuilt 28 of these things....
anyway...he says he put big blocks in every single one without cutting shock towers. says he used some kind of truck engine mounts (or maybe it was body mounts?) to jack the engine up higher to clear the towers and then used a raised hood or something.
i just can't see any of that working. i've called his bluff on a lot of other things....wanted to ask the experts to see if we add another to the long list of exaggerations, or if he's actually telling the truth for once.

I remember my brother saying he sat a big block in a 66..It fit but there was no room for the exhaust manifolds..I suppose it might be possible if you raised the engine up a rediculous amount but the tranny would be pointing down at the ground...Tell him you would like to see some pics or better yet one of the "many" cars he has done this to..
One other thingn you might want to clarify is what he calls a "big block"..He may only be talking about a 351C which alot of people think is a big block..

oh no, if you knew this guy.....of course he said he was talking about a 460 or something maybe even in the 500+ range....i can't remember. but with him....it's always to the extreme. pretty sure it had automatic machine guns coming out the front, too. shameful, really, for a 40+ year old.

Hey, I'm over 40 and I'm pretty sure all our cars had automatic machine guns back in the day. Most came out the back though.

i mentioned that even a 351 doesn't really fit in there.....

You have to work WITH a guy like that.
He built 28? You built 29. And you used really, really big blocks. Huge blocks.
It became so easy you started putting TWO really huge blocks in.
I try to think of people who "embellish" as dreamers, in the grand scheme of things what does it hurt?

No, a big block isnt going to fit, a 351C fits, but barely.

First time I saw a 351W in a 65 Mustang was in 1971.
The biggest engine that will fit in a 65-66 without cutting is a 427. Of course, that would be a 351W-based Ford Racing 427.
The true big-blocks, both the 390/427/428 FE, and the 429/460 "385" engines, would require massive surgery.
On the other hand, big block engines do fit in 67-up Mustangs.
