Default 1st oil change?

I just purchased a 2011 v6 with 300 miles on it. (took delivery today).

My previous car was an 08 Scion xB. I did my first oil change on that car at 5000 miles and then evry 5000 after that...religiously with full synthetic. I traded the car with 55000 miles and did 10 oil changes and 2 transmission services..so I take care of the car.

My question is this: When should I do the first oil change on the new Mustang? Can I wait the 5000 miles or should I do 3000 miles and switch to full synthetic then continue at 5000 miles?

Should I even use full synthetic?

Give me some thoughts fellas.
Thanks

Someone who has one correct me if I am wrong, I believe they ship with full synthetic?

I would change the oil a 1k or 1,500. most of your engine break in shavings are probably going to be off by then depending on your break in procedure.

After that I would recommend AMSOil full synthetic and an AMSOil or Napa Gold filter.

If you go with AMSOil, you can go up to 20k per oil change depending on how hard you run your car. I've been running AMSOil in several cars for about 5 years on long intervals with no issues, and their life didn't start with AMSOil. If you do run 10-20k changes, I would recommend replacing the filter at half of that and top off the oil.

I bought mine and the first recommended by ford...was 10,000 miles...that was what first service is.....if you create a owner advantage account onlline, like chevy, and onstar, they know through sync how many miles you have on car, and at 2,000 miles i logged in, it says...don't forget your first service is in 8,000 miles....now at 5000 miles i had the cold ticking sound fixed so they asked if wanted to see how sounded with new oil while still cold out so I asked do 100 % motorcraft then...no tick and new next oil change says online 15,000 cause I had about 5,000 on car when they did the cold tick fix....

And since the long time between oil changes always bring opinions...the following is right out of your manual.......NOW with anything up to you....if this long of time between changes are found to be bad for car, ford would notify users of that, like today...my '07 Caddy CTS...was sent a letter today telling me to take into shop to have the oil life monitor recalibrated as it was making me wait too long between changes and might cause premature wear of timing chain...so I will have that resolved soon, they say I can fix anytime free before 2013...so after fixed will prompt me to change oil sooner it said...ford ever finds same issue they may do samething..

For your convenience, your vehicle is equipped with a message center
which determines the proper oil change service interval. You should
perform the engine oil change as indicated by the instrument cluster
message center. The message center will display ENGINE OIL CHANGE
SOON or OIL CHANGE REQUIRED to indicate when an oil change is
needed. The engine oil change service needs to be completed within two
weeks or 500 miles (800 km) after the OIL CHANGE REQUIRED
message is displayed. Your oil change service interval can be up to one
year or 10,000 miles (16,000 km). Reset your Intelligent Oil Life
Monitor™ after each engine oil and filter change; refer to the
Instrument Cluster chapter.
If your message center is prematurely reset or becomes inoperative, you
should perform the oil change interval at six months or 5,000 miles
(8,000 km) from your last oil change.

yes it ships with full synthetic

My first change was at 5k, my next wasn't until 12k and I still had showing 30% life left on the gauge.

10,000 miles or more on full synthetic is not unusual. I run 8k-10k miles on both the Stang (Amsoil) and my tow vehicle (Mobil1) with full syn and will extend that without batting an eyelash if changing it on-time isn't convenient.

I just did my first oil change yesterday at 6,600 miles. I will probably keep it at 6,000 mile intervals so that I can time my oil changes and tire rotations at the same time.

The sensor still said over 60% oil life left, but I'm paranoid and don't believe in sensors. Heck, it took forever for me to even accept anything other than 3,000 mile oil changes, so change doesn't come easy for me with car stuff.

Ok, so I am not crazy with 5k intervals....where do I have the oil sensor information? I have looked and don't see anything on it. I am in a base v6, not a premium. Does that make a difference?
