I am wanting to change my coolant because the previous owner put the red stuff in it. I have never done this on any vehicle before. I have looked up some how to's and what not but I am still unsure. Is is necessary to flush the coolant, or could I just drain everything somehow and refill?

on the passenger front side of the block, there is a allen head plug. This is your main block drain. Remove it, with the radiator cap off. the block will drain out. On the bottom of the radiator, there is a petcock that will allow you to drain the rad itself. Once both are drained, close up both holes.

fill the engine with straight water. run it for a few minutes and drain it again, just like before.

Once everything is all closed up, refill the car with a 50/50 coolant/water mix.

What AdderMk2 said, and repeat until the water is clear. When I had my shop I would put a hose in the radiator and run engine till all water flowed clear. Plus don't forget to put the heater on so you get the old coolant out of it.

you dont need to put the heater on. It isn't valved, like a chevy.

Thanks adder. I can just use regular water for the flush right? I have read things where it says to only used distilled water or whatever.

You can just refill too if it is not causing problems. Go to the parts store and ask for universal antifreeze. Although, I do believe that Ford antifreeze causes probelms after buying three 95-98 model engines for my dad's car and all of the aluminum heads being rurnt from corrosion of antifreeze.

So it's a flow thru with a baffel door to isolate the heater until you need it???
