Default New Mustang Owner.

Hi, my name is Dan, and I am new to the forums. I recently bought a 1976 Mustang II, and I am having some problems with it, (well, mainly one BIG problem). The problem is the engine, it runs rough. Every time I take it out on the road it stalls, backfires, sometimes is hard to get into gear. Does anyone know what I can do to make the engine run a little smoother? I've already given the car a tune up. I'm just confused on what to do next. And, it does need body work, but I'll get to that on a warmer day. I was also told to put in the middle grade of gasoline in the car, is that true? Also, does anyone know where I can get some parts like a speedometer cluster for the car? I've looked on ebay, gone to junk yards, but I can't find the cluster, (or at least not for a good price). Thanks.

Welcome to the site. What engine do you have? The 4cyl, 6cyl, and the V8 were never really perfected. Good luck finding parts. Those Mustang II are really not that collectible. I don't believe there is any real aftermarket for the 74-78. Best bet find a parts car or junkyard.

@rwh129, It's a V6, and now that I look at it there are vacuum lines that are disconnected. One of the previous owners of this car had removed the original air filter and replaced it with one of the newer ones, so there is a line disconnected there as well. Would you know where I could find a diagram for the vacuum lines? I have a feeling that may be part of my problem with getting the car to run right. Thanks.
