Squealing noise from engine
my 96 3.8 is making a squeeling noise after it warms up. it sounds like it is coming from the left side of the engine. i have changed the harmonic balancer, the alternator, the water pump, the power steering pump and the cam shaft sensor and it is still there. When i shut the engine off i hear a hissing that sounds like a big air leak. The noise almost sounds like it is in the engine itself. This enginer has 3000 on a rebuid. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

no i haven't done that yet but i replaced the power steering pump and lines tonight, after completing the task i took the car for a ride to get it to operating temp, when i returned to my garage that noise was back. I noticed that when placed in park the noise stopped. It started again when i put it in reverse and drive it stopped in park and neutral. The tranny was also rebuilt with the engine.

yes i changed the entire synczr,i think i got it from autozone don't remember. The noise only starts when car is placed into gear, it slowly stops if put in neutral or park, but does reappearn when you shut the engine off, you hear the squel slow down to a stop.

Did the torque converter get bolted back to the flywheel? Also, if the TC was replaced, did you make sure the converter was seated all the way onto the trans?

I replaced the TQ myself and yes it was installed properly. I changes it on the advice of a tranny shop mechanic. The noise was there before i replaced it and still remains, what other bearings or part is there that would squeak? Is it internal tranny maybe, i did not rebuild it.
