5.0 LX/GT
I've heard that LX notchback 5.0's are absolutely the best cars you can get for the money you pay and speed you get with them. In November of 01 I was lookin for cars and I drove a 5.0 LX notchback a couple of milesbut the gear was grinding like crazy cause the clutch was going out. Thats the only reasonI decided against it cause I didn't want to have to replace the clutch right away. (go figure, I bought an escort and 2 weeks later the clutch actually exploded on the way home...haha) Anyway, in a couple of months...right around summer time... I might be in the market for a Mustang as a weekend/fun time use of a car so you anti-import guys can't tell me to f off this board. I'd need something relatively cheap and fun to play with/lightly modify. But yes, I am keeping the Civic, depending on a good job...I'm going to try for a second car with minimal insurance coverage.

What I need to know is a little bit about the 5.0 V8 in the late 80s early 90s notchbacks. (sorry guys, I know more about the 5.0L 3G fbody V8s cause I never researched on the foxbody of this era.) LXs are faster just because they're lighter, but doesn't the GT model come with slightly more power?

1. what year(s) are the best to shop for?

2. how reliable are they if well maintained? I'm not lookin for a top of the line car as this will be a "if it breaks, oh well" type of car.

3. What are any of the problem spots for any of the years (you guys) will state for the answer to Q1?

4. Does anyone have any problems with the shifters for the 5.0s, if so...whats kinda kits can you get to fix them? (ie: shifter wobbles, tighten up the linkage and put on some grommets etc)

5. How much power does each model put out from year to year? and what is the generation of the foxbody mustang? I'm thinking 3rd...? (64-73 for first gen,74-8x, for second gen,8x-94 Foxbody, 95-99 SN95, 99+ New edge SN95.
