two weeks ago my 1968 mustang 302 didn't want to start, i inserted the key turned it and nothing happens no click from starter, Nothing!

I would leave the key on the On Position and jump it from the solenoid and starts fine i can shut it off from the key but i cannot start it from the key.

changed the ignition switch and same problem.

Help!

Sounds like its the electrical portion of the ignition switch. I just put one in my car.

This is the one you need and I think its the best price, but you can check your local auto store.

Pull out the ignition switch and take a look, my money is on a shorted wire. Mustang monthly had a great article on how to remove it every year.

aehhh don't forget the NSS (neutral safety switch).
If you have an auto try moving the gearstick around a bit, try park and neutral
try bypassing the NSS altogether to see what the problem is.

thats the switch i replaced last week

It is not the Neutral safety switch

and i looked for any lose or burnt wires

I dont think its the starter solenoid because i can jump it with ease unless the S or the I on the solenoid are defective

Im still Lost

Correct, If you can jump it to start, it is neither the starter or solenoid.

It is most likely the ignition switch. Are you saying you replaced that or just the key lock cylinder?

Check fuses too.

Use a test light to the back of the ignition switch while you turn the key and that will tell you exactly what it is!

I replaced The ignition switch only not the tumbler

OK well you get key on power, but nothing to the starter side of the solenoid. have you checked any of it with a volt meter, or even a test light?

I would still check the back of your new switch to see if you get power when you you turn the key to the start position. If no power then its still a bad switch assembly. if you get power then you have a bad wire!

yep, by now you'll have to pull out the test light.
first thing to do is to check at the switch.

if you can jump start it at selonoid and it stays running, then the problem is either:
- the wiring from switch to 'S' port of selonoid.
- the connector at firewall
- the NSS
- the ignition switch itself

how do you know it's not the NSS? how did you check that?

if you have a testlight, check the 'S' port while someone turns the key. there probably is no power, that's the reason your car is not starting. work your way back from there
