How long does it take for road salt to damage your car...
So ive always wondered, we just had a snow storm and my town seems to think that it needs to use excessive amounts of salt for not even an inch of snow, so my car currently has salt all around the wheel wells and its super dirty. I'm not gonna have a chance to wash it till the end of the week, and ive always wondered..how long does it actually take to damage my paint and car?

A week of it sitting on it won't hurt. It's over time that salt screws stuff up. Whenever we have a good storm, they salt the roads heavily here and I wait til either the snow melts or we have a rain to rinse the roads then I wash the car with undercarriage blast to get majority of salt off.

I've driven my car through 3 New England winters. I typically wash I (or at least spray it down) once a week and I don't have any rust on or under the car. Just don't let the salt sit on it for an extended length of time and you should be fine.

this whole salt thing just drives me crazy...
when i lived in Colorado we didnt do any of that crap, they just took bucket loaders and packed the stuff down and tried to move some of it out of the way, and you know what? no one dies or anything like that...
hell, i think there were less accidents out there in a year getting 15-18 FEET of snow on average then there were during the first snow storm in one COUNTY in CT alone...
as for the salt question... i think if my car even looks at salt itll start to corrode so it gets parked before it even starts snowing lol
