Default 2013 Cobra Jet Mustangs Hit the Track

The Cobra Jets look incredible. They're still in testing, but the 2013 series (especially the supercharged) already look fast at least. The story is attached here: 2013 Cobra Jet Mustangs Hit the Track

These things are pretty rare, with something like 50 allotted for the first run. I'm interested in hearing people's experience with this car. I know they won their first year out, but are they still competitive? Dominant?

Should have named it unicorn. I'm sure I'll never see one. Pretty badass though.

Definitely built right. My only thing is, for $80-90K, why not just buy a base GT, and mod that to run 9s or low 10s for way less money? IDK, like they said, it's great for the "turn key racer"

The specialty cars are always pricey. But it is ready to rock from the factory. I have seen the previous ones at the track quite often. I enjoy watching them. I'd buy one if I hit the lotto.

generally when you buy a factory built racecar, you pay extra for the extensive testing and track time already put into the vehicle. It's already been tested and tried so you know it will perform and do so with some decent longevity. Sure you could build a similar performing car out of a base gt for slightly cheaper especially if you're doing the work yourself, but you still have to go through the process of building the thing and then most of the time you're using aftermarket parts that don't meet the same standards as parts manufactured through ford for their cars.

Many people don't look at these details when they think of building a car to compete with a factory race car. By the time you actually build a base gt that actually is on par with the cobra jet, you'll probably actually have just as much invested if not more.

I'm not a collector so this car does nothing for me. I'm sure you can make a GT just as fast with bolt on parts for less than half of what they want for that. And as far as the quote above. I'd use the same wipple charger that Ford is using. The same intake ford is using and bolt it on myself. I dont think Ford is doing anything special or using anything exotic with this car. This is still an S197 platform thats been around sinse 05 so all the reasearch is already out there. The map has been drawn already.

I hear JoJos points loud n clear, but theres that one phrase that sticks out in my mind "Built, not Bought".....

I would rather go through the experiences of the trials and tribulations of building my own junk then just buy someone elses work. Get a LOT more experience that way too. If Stone comes out with his 9sec GT, and I come out with my brand new CJ, I bet he knows WAY more about his car then I do mine. And if something busts, he can fix it before I could mine.

Of course, this isn't always true. Someone like Chip Foose could buy a CJ just because he can, and that doesn't mean he doesnt know bout cars....

Back OT, the car is badass, regardless of who/where it was built!

One more point about the factory racer.
They are built by hand, one at a time.
You are paying a lot for the labor on these cars and it's all at U.A.W. rates.
This fact alone is probably $30,000 of the the price....
