Hey yall, I have a 1966 coupe with 289-2V,AT. The transmission was rebuilt about a year ago. A few days ago I was going to back it out of the garage and when I put it in gear the engine died immediately. It did this several times even when I shifted into drive. It did it even after the engine had warmed up. Any ideas what could be the problem? I rebuilt the carb about a week ago.

Vacuum leak? fuel filter?

More info would be great. Try to put it into gear but have one foot on the gas ready to keep her running, can you keep it alive that way?

Does it just die or sputter down?

does it run okay in park? If yes idle maybe low

It runs good in park. Oxford, yes I tried giving it gas as I shifted and it still dies no sputtering. I was thinking fuel filter or vacuum leak too. Gonna check into those tomorrow.

Ya probably one of the two. Carb cleaner or brake clean are good to use for vacuum check. you can use the straw to get in close if you find one. hook up a pressure guage to the fuel line and see what it reads.

I found a leak in the hose going from the pcv valve to the spacer between the carb and intake. It was leaking pretty good at the spacer. I also discovered the timing was off quite a bit. After fixing both these the engine runs normal when shifting into reverse or drive. the carb needs more adjusting though. Thanks for the input and suggestions.
