removing bumpers
have been considering removing my front and rear bumpers on my fox to shed some weight. anybody ever done this? im wondering if my bumper covers will sag at all? not really sure if the covers are attached or depend on the bumpers at all for support? also going to remove the side impact bars

Is this for the a street car? I don't recommend doing any of that.
For a strip car, the bumper covers will sag without using another type of support system. People opt for using chromemoly supports. Much less weight than the bumpers but still required to prevent sag.
Side crash bars...

Those crash bars are a huge PITA to get out without cutting them.
If you have a cage, go for fiberglass doors so the steel ones don't deform.
I'd look at other ways that are safer to reduce weight. Tubular K-member, seat delete, gut it?, lighter wheels, fiberglass hood/hatch, etc.

In my coupe that I had I pulled the front and rear suports out and rear bumper didnt' sag but the fron one did a little bit BUT I didn't have the the fender brackets on either (they was not there when I boutht the car) and I believe that made the bumper sag b/c the fenders bow out some
Now on my 87 GT I have I do have the rear suport out and the bumper does not sag and it took 27 pounds out counting bolts and all. IMO pulling the front isn't worth it b/c it's a fiber glass support and it's only 10 pounds. The door suports I have no clue about.

I've got the front bumper out of my car (an 84).
Car runs 10.85 @126 now and the front bumper does not distort.
Front bumper weighed 42# in my case.
This is a strip only type car and I wouldn't even bother with the door braces if they are only 10# each, I'lll use the braceing for the nite I bang off the railings at the strip.......
