Default 2013 5.0 Oil Weight

Looked under the hood of a 2013 5.0 GT and noticed that the oil filler cap now says 5-50 oil and that Ford recomends full synthetic oil so now the new GT's will use the same weight oil as the Shelby GT 500's.

Would it be wise for the 11-12's to change over as well?

Wonder if there will be a TSB. Of course, there are a few internal differences on the new Coyote.

Someone claimed the 2013 used 5w-50 on ALLFORDMUSTANGS also. He even supplied a picture. Turned out, that was a picture of the Boss fill cap.

In other words, this thread is bogus. The 2013 5.0 (non-boss) calls for 5w-20.

Well I started the thread and I know what I saw which was a oil fill cap on a 2013 5.0 Gt that said 5-50. Could it have been a Boss 302 cap? I suppose so but if it was it came from the factory with the wrong oil fill cap. Kinda of makes you wonder about Ford quality control if it was a Boss 302 oil filler cap dosen't it?

I can't speak for what you saw or thought you saw. Bottom line is, the 2013 Mustang GT (non-Boss) calls for 5w-20 from Ford.

Now, you could speculate on whether 5w-50 would hurt it, regardless to what Ford says, but that is a debate waged on many, many threads.

the 5w is cold "thinkness" and a 5W means that you can still start your car in -20F (it might be -30F)

the 50 is the operational "thickness" so ya it s a bit thick but don't worry about weather unless you go to a 0W area.

I may owe the OP an apology here . . . sort of.

On another forum, folks are saying that the 2013 Mustangs with the 'track pack' option are coming with oil caps that say 5w-50, while the owner's manual still says 5w-20. Seems to be much speculation on which is correct.

Will be interesting to see how this one plays out.
