Default My 4.0 to 4.6 Swap

As a few of you know I've been having issues with my transmission lately. I was looking at replacing the transmission with a refurbished T5 or 3650, but then I came across a deal on a totaled '07 4.6. I nearly bought the car, but it fell through.

Today, I was looking around on Craigslist and came across a totaled '06 auto 4.6 with 120k miles. Went to look at it and the entire drive-train is in good condition (these cars are ridiculously well built). It is being delivered on Friday.

My husband and I will be tearing down the car and motor next weekend.
Once the motor is striped we will have the motor bored and possibly stroked.
I'm looking for a pretty tame build, so it won't be too crazy.

The car is an auto, so do any of you have an idea where to swap for a 3650?

I think you need the PCM for a manual. IDK

Geez, that poor thing looks like it was backed into a phone pole at about 50mph...

I believe X3xMONGOOSEx3X is correct. You'll need the PCM from a manual car. You'll also need to pay attention to the wiring harness and year of the PCM, as I recall a swap thread somewhere where there was a discussion of issues between different model year PCM/Harness combos. I'll see if I can locate the thread.

Edit: Found it, see especially post #6: http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...ss-issues.html

It's too bad you couldn't have gotten an MT car and swapped all the parts directly over, still if the deal was good enough, it would offset the hassle of chasing down the other parts

Thanks a lot, Torch! I didn't even know that could be an issue.
I am hoping to trade the transmission, PCM, and wiring harness at a Mustang Parts yard in OKC for a 3650 with wiring harness and PCM. I don't know if they do that kind of thing, but I guess I'll find out.

And it was in a wreck going over 100 mph. It was raining and the car spun out.
The guy that was driving ran off...

Good for you Tannie.
Go to your local track and pass the word around about your swapping intentions... Those guys need autos for bracket races etc...

Congrats Tanner!

Oh yeah. I have dibs on the front crush bar, steering wheel/airbag, driver side seat belt, and upper GT specific foam bumper support!
