Default Distributor Install

I'm just full of questions this week. I'm installing an MSD dizzy. I made the actual distributor housing flush w the front of the block (so the msd logo isnt crooked), i figured I would time from there when I'm ready. The rotor is supposed to point towards the #1 terminal, I know. However, no matter how I rotate the oil pump shaft I cannot get this damn thing to line up. Why won't it line up?

exactly whee is it falling ? Are you sure your at TDC on the #1?
It can sometimes be tricky to get the exact tooth you need to be at the #1 position.
If you know for sure your tdc compression then just keep at it somtimes you have to turn the roter a bit while your lowering it in.

take out the distributor, stick a screw driver in #1 spark plug hole (just enough to feel the piston) and crank engine by hand until the piston hits the screw driver and back out just enough to remove the screw driver and restab it.

i didnt read all of this..but i can already say STOP !!!!!

did you rotate the motor at all ? if yes

you need to re find TDC on the COMPRESSION stroke

so on #1 plug hole...rotate til it "phooshes" and stop your at TDC , install the dizzy and time it after you install it

it wont sit perfect...it is what it is
