I picked up a used 2011 V6 convertible a month ago and have noticed what appear to be two small stains on the convertible top caused by oil or grease soaking up through the top coming from the convertible top hardware. The stains are about the size of a nickle or quarter and are located on the third ridge from the back on both sides of the car nearest to the convertible top seam that runs along the length of the car. The hotter the temperature outside the more you can tell that the stains are caused by oil or grease as the substance becomes more liquid from the heat and you can feel it on your finger if you touch the spots. Can anybody verify my suspicion that this is caused by lubricant coming from the convertible top hardware?

I haven't heard of anyone having this problem before with their convert tops. I'm interested to see what you find out. Hopefully another member will be able to join in and share their experience.

Being an '11, it should be still under warranty, correct?? Definitely take in if that is case. I even had my top replaced under warranty due to excessive wear from the heavy creases with the original cloth top design.

I've had 3 GT converts in a row over the last 14 years, never seen that. Its got to be from the hardware. Its easy enough to clean up if ford gives you trouble.

It is less likely to be grease and oil actually soaking through the top. It would leak water if that was the case. It could be from where the top gets tucked away behind the rear seat. Feel around and try to see if there is dirt and grime build up back there. find exactly where the stained portion is sitting behind the seat and look for the dirt in that area. Some dawn dish soap and a brush should take care of the stain. then use some protecting after you clean it.
