Default VHT Nightshade Tails - 2013-14 Style - Pics

I was playing around in photoshop the other day and came up with this:

Decided this has to happen, so just like that I lost my entire weekend.

Began the taping off process. *Note that I had VHT on these lights in the past, so the trim was already black. Hence why I didn't un-mask the trim areas.

After about half a can of Niteshades lol.

Pulled off the tape.

At this point I was getting excited, but I had to work the next morning, so I put them back in before clear coat.

Next day, cleaned them off and clear coated them! Put 4 coats on, the last 2 being quite heavy. I made sure I had enough clear to be able to sand the surface flat (the VHT had created a raised edge next to the part that isn't VHT'd).

Let that sit for a day, then wet sanded the clear coat with 2000 grit. Sanded until there were no "pits" left. Got it perfectly flat to where I couldn't feel the edge created by the layer of VHT. This took forever doing by hand, but it feels awesome

*I know you are only supposed to sand in one direction, but ain't nobody got time for that.

Then, polished them with my Porter Cable, orange pad, and Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover 3.0

Came out perfect!

Threw them back on a dirty car!

I am definitely digging them! While they were inspired by the 13-14 tail lights, I wanted to have some light come through from the center of the light as well. I'm sure you could use the same process with actual black paint and only have the edges lit up, but not sure if that would be very safe.

Opinions? I'd be happy to answer any questions about how to do this. Going to get the windows tinted darker next. Also thinking about a satin black super snake stripe, and maybe a little bit of front-end blackness to go along.

Nice work! That looks awesome! I may even have to cut my tail light tint to look like that. Looks really good.

That is so nice, i've got to call in for the Spicoli seal of approval...

Next level stuff my man!
If we had a "mod of the month" contest (dang, now there's a thought), that would get my vote!
