Hello all,

Started this thread/project a loooooong time ago. Financial and some personal issues took importance from the task, but I'm back around. I'll drop statuses as things happen. I'm running the wiring now for the taillights. Once that's done I'll post some links for advice, comments and thoughts. Talk to you all soon.

So I am trying to plan out the exhaust on my project. Recap is, I have a 67 coupe with a 351w crate engine and AOD from an 89 Mustang. So with that said, I got a set of headers that are going to a 1 5/8" opening I believe. Although I'm not sure if I should go dual or single exhaust.

Thoughts, opinions, comments?

I definitely think you should do dual exhaust. It shouldn't be too expensive, you could get an aftermarket exhaust or factory for pretty cheap I would think.

Last I saw on MU it was about $1200 for a dual exhaust. IDK I guess that's doable......

I guess those were with headers.

Here's these minus headers:

More of a factory option:

So with a nice pair of headers and that flowmaster exhaust, you'd be good to go. I'd think you could get nice headers for $400-600 or so. Total you should come in under $1000 I'd assume.

On the driver's side, the TV cable to your AOD must take absolute priority on space allocation over the D/S exhaust. Even if you have to modify the end of the D/S header itself.

I'm not making this up - somebody I know (not on the forum) didn't believe me, hooked up the C4 kickdown link instead, and burned up his AOD in under 200 miles.

Watch Craigslist for 302 and AOD or T-5 combinations. Occasionally you can get an assembled combo for a great price!

This is exactly what Im doing at the moment. The 67 engine bay can fit a 390, so the 351 is a good fit and Lost of power and a perfect match for that AOD. Or just buy a FRPP or Edelbrock drop in Crate engine and an AOD.

oops brought this back from the dead.
