Hey guys,

I hydrolocked my 2001 GT 4.6L 2v. The car is otherwise undamaged, but the motor is done. It doesn't turn whatsoever. I made an insurance claim, but I'm not getting as much money as I think I should for a replacement motor + parts and labor. Nonetheless, I need to fix the car, because they are NOT totaling it. I have it at a local Mustang specialty shop, but their labor cost is through the roof. I don't know if I should just pay it for quality work or go with a dealership that warranties their work. The engine will likely be from LKQ and it will likely be a newer lower mileage Crown Vic long block, because that just makes more sense.

If you insurance is willing to admit they owe you for it, they need to show you a shop that will do the work for the price they will cover.

I don't want billy bob fixing my car, I want a legit mechanic who has worked on a few dozen Mustangs.

I have a 32k longblock out of a 2009 Crown Vic en route to the shop. It's not an upgrade, but will get me to better-than-stock, as it's a 93k car.

These motors are pretty basic, almost as basic installing as a old carbed pushrod. Any shop with a decent mechanic can do it easily you don't need to go to a "special mustang" guys to install a ford mod motor then came in tons of things. Any 4 or 6 cylinder motor from a 2010 is harder to put in than one of these.
