Default Please help Identify what seal/gasket this is..

Hey guys, I am new here and I just purchased my first foxbody last week. Its an 89 lx coupe 5.0. Yesterday I noticed a small amount of fluid under the car. After taking a closer look I noticed that behind the crankshaft pulley, this gasket/seal was torn. Could anyone help identify what this is, and how hard it is to replace. I appreciate all your help.

Front crank seal. Should be replaceable just by taking the dampner off.

I just had a guy tell me it was a harmonic balancer seal, and I will need to remove and replace the whole balancer

I think what you are looking at is the rubber damper that separates the inner and outer rings of the harmonic balancer..... This is pretty common for the rubber to separate and get twisted out of the balancer . its not a seal its just an integral part of the balancer and yes the balancer needs replaced....

keep looking your leak is somwhere else. The balancer will not leak anything. Closest thing in that area would be crank seal as mentioned earlier.

Get that old balancer off and then replace front seal then replace dampner with new one.
Very easy.
Maybe take 3 hours to do if you work at the rate I do, slow.......
