Ok...couple years ago I tried to siphon the fuel out of my 97 SVT that had been sitting in storage for a while and the damn hose that had a plastic "thingy" on the end of it pull off the hose as I was removing it because I couldn't push the hose down into the tank far enough.

So instead decided to just stabil the fuel during storage which flows into the tank fine - no back up - as well as the can of Seafoam I put in after pulling it out of storage. Drove it a distance to burn-down the 1/4 tank of "old" fuel and when I went to fill the tank it took me over 20 minutes!!!!!!

The gas pump's auto-overfill shutout kept engaging...my hand got tired because I literally had to trickle the gas in...

Here's my question...it there a screen at the end of the fuel filler tube that's 4-bolted to the fuel tank that that "thinky" and possibly an old gas cap part is clogging the fuel filler tube???

Has anyone out there ever replaced their fuel tank that can offer some experienced eyes insight???

I just had mine all apart and I think there's a flap on the end of the filler tube to keep anyone from stealing your gas.Also check the breather hose to make sure it's connected and not clogged.You'll obviously have to drop the tank to check the end of the fill tube.Be careful not to tear the rubber grommet the fill tube goes thru.I removed my fill tube without dropping the tank to install a new rubber grommet but had to drop the tank to get the tube through the new one and into the tank.BTW the ford dealership was the cheapest I found for a new grommet(13.50).

So Jeh...what do you think my problem is?? Does that flapper flap into the tank...which I assume it does to allow fuel into the tank...and how does the flapper deter siphoning??? That's a big question that's running through my mind as I can imagine it.....

There is a ball in the filler tube. It is there to prevent fuel from spilling out during a roll over.

I didn't look too close at it but it's in the end of the tube.I think when the fuel hits it opens up.I just remember taking a quick glance at it.It stays in the tube when it opens.Like I said I only took a quick glance at it.Have you checked the breather hose,that sounds like what it is.Like it's not letting air escape as you fill it.

Interesting...very interesting...so if there's a ball in there I'm going to have to take the filler tube out turn it upside down and flush it out with water to get that plastic thinky and gas cap part out of there. Thanks Jeh...

You'll have to drop the tank.You should be able to lower the driver side enough then slide the tank to that side,so you can remove the filler tube without disconnecting the fuel lines.My 98 has a different fuel pump assembly than the 97's but I'm pretty sure everything else is the same.
