Default Procomp ebay heads?

Ive got my motor torn down right now updatin a few things and was thinking about upgrading my heads. Got on ebay and saw procomp heads for like 650, then I saw that there located at kingsport tn which is about 1.5 hrs from me. Called them up and turns out this is an actual machine shop and they order procomp head blanks and load them up with comp cams everything. I know straight up pro comp stuff has had bad press in the past but what do you guys think about this type set up with a real machine shop building them?

I figure with my current set up the only thing missing is a decent set of heads. Im not a track burner just enjoy playin on the street. They said I should see a minimum of 40hp gain.

thoughts...

I think youd probly be ahead in the long run to grab some gt40 explorer heads and rebuild them yourself. However with the E7 heads you have that port/polish you have goes along way, Im not sure you would see 40hp over what you have now just by swapping to the procomp heads, Im sure in order for them to sell them at that price they are using the cheapest parts possible to put them together.

I would advise to pass on those heads. Save some cash and buy a nice set like AFR or TFS, even Edelbrock. Those are the popular choices, and they'll be a good match for the notor pending which size you get. Like dawson said, I would get a cheapo pair of gt40's before a set of bottom-of-the-barrel aluminum heads

Check this link out and see what you think. When I say port and polished e7 I mean they've had a little work done but nothing as extensive as these. They said its all comp cams stainless steel valvetrain and just the bases are from pro comp.

Stock These

combustion chamber 62cc 60cc

Intake flow 126cc 190cc

Exhaust flow 43cc ???

Valve size 1.78/1.45 2.02/1.60

Check out this ad and tell me what you think

That company has a bad reputation! Here's a set of DART aluminum heads for $800. I'd doublecheck the warrenty on the darts before I pulled the trigger. I get being on a budget. But you get what you pay for and I'd stay clear of cheap engine parts.

Just remember that 85 percent of what a seller says on ebay is bull****... Of coaurse they are going to play there product up, but in reality when you build 5500 rpms in a little over a second things tend to really get put to the test. There is a reason seasoned mechanics put out a grand or more for heads.

for the price they are selling the stuff, they are not and I repeat not using genuine comp cams valves, springs locks and retainers, alone that stuff if it were what they said it was, would be 500-600, plus they are using springs for flat tappet cam rates...not roller cam friendly. Junk if you ask me and not worth the gamble

thanks fellas I called and canceled the order. I'll be ordering AFR 165's Monday morning. I like the fact there a 58cc combustion chamber and should up the compression to about 10:1. Plus Ive heard nothing but good things a bout them
