Default 4.10 gears what do you think?

I have a 72 coupe with a semi-mildly built 302 and a FMX tranny

1st. 2.40
2.1.47
3. 1

ok so im debating on what gears i want. This car wont really see the track its more of a local driver occasional freeway cruiser..i only drive the car about 3 times a week if im lucky..for like about 2 hours each time. I want it to be quick(er) but i dont want to force the motor going 65 @ 3500 either..but i want to know if i should really go with the 4.10 versus a smaller ratio.what will i be more happy with? gas isnt any issue for me. But my motors health is very important to me.right now i have a 275/35/20 tire and i think it has 2.93 in them. and does 0-60 in about 5-6 seconds on a peg legger. Should i put the 4.10s posi traction? will i be happy?

The Coyote engine is 4.3 sec 0-60 the Boss is actually 4.5 or 4.7 both with 3.73. I've done both and I liked both. I know your not worried about fuel, but I liked the distance capable 3.73 and the kick of the 4.10. With a 4.10 you'll break traction more in rain and ice, and I believe the higher you go 4.10 4.56 the more stress you put on the other components.

I have a Shaft Master aluminum with Steel braided lines, FR 3.73 and a FR rear alum diff cover. Soon I will add a Yukon posi (stronger for drag, T2 better for track) the Traction Loc in it is just a bookmark, Alloy shafts in the diff, Spec (stage 1) clutch with Spec flywheel. Hope that bomb proofs it.

Every time someone breaks a component in their drive-line, it's usually a combo of strong motor and sticky slicks.

With those tires and occasional freeway driving the 4.11's might be ok but 3.73 or 3.90's would be a safer bet. The problem is not having an overdrive gear so its going to work the motor hard on any extended highway cruising.

and i live in SOCAL so rain and ice isnt very common..50+ temp year long mostly sunshine or occasional cloudyness..so im not worried bout breaking traction..im just more worried about messing up my car with 4.10s by freeway driving

well i would think it is a no brainer.

it is your pleasure car... you want to be faster... you dont drive it enough on the freeway for it to do any real damage... i say do it.

with 275/35/20 and a aggressively built street/mild built for strip car will perform with 4.10s?? nice long burnouts? a skid mark from launch?
