Lights flickering/Battery gauge moving
Hi everyone! I have had my car in the shop twice this week for the same problem. My battery gauge moves up and down and my lights (interior/dash/headlights) flicker with the moving of the gauge. I replaced my alternator less than a year ago and when I took it to Ford they told me my battery had a short in it. After replacing my battery its still doing the same thing and when I took it back in they told me it was not doing it while they had it, but I have had it back for two days and it continues to do it. Any thoughts on what it could be?
Thanks so much!

Check the condition and tightness of the battery cables and clean the connector to the alternator. If that doesn't help, then I suspect that it's the alternator (again). A battery by itself won't cause erratic voltages.
The alternators in these cars are known, weak components. If possible, find someone that sells good rebuilt units. They're not very hard to install.

This was a tried and true method back before cars were stuffed with sensitive electronics and gas cost 39 cents a gallon. These days, it's not really wise and can cause voltage surges that can damage components in the car including an otherwise functional alternator.
